Getting Here
The road to Stora Sjöfallet is breathtakingly beautiful, no matter how you get there. The easiest way is to drive your own car, but if that’s not an option, there are daily bus services during certain periods between Gällivare and all the way to our lodge.

How to Get Here
Personal car
By car, drive south from Gällivare on Highway E45. After driving 40 kilometers, you’ll come to an intersection where you’ll turn off toward Stora Sjöfallet / Ritsem. If you’re driving on Highway E45 from southern Sweden, you’ll pass through Porjus. About five kilometers past Porjus, you’ll find the intersection for Stora Sjöfallet / Ritsem.
Bus
At certain times between February and October, there are daily buses from the train station in Gällivare to Stora Sjöfallet. Check the schedule and book your ticket at Road to Ritsem – roadtoritsem.com
Train
There are daily overnight trains to Gällivare from Stockholm. This gives you the chance to get a good night’s sleep before waking up when the train arrives in Gällivare in the morning. From the train station, you can then hop on a bus (make sure to check that buses are running on the dates of your visit—link to Länstrafiken) or book a car through Hertz, which will deliver it to the train station.
Taxi / Transfer
Taxi, base fare starting at 5,000 and up from Gällivare (one-way). Seats up to four people. Contact Gällivare Taxi and mention that you have a reservation with us at Stora Sjöfallet Mountain Lodge to get an accurate price quote.
Flight
The nearest airport is Gällivare (Lapland Airport), 145 km from our lodge. There are daily flights (Monday–Friday) from Stockholm/Arlanda that take two hours. From the airport, you can book a taxi to Gällivare if you wish to continue your journey to us by bus. If you’d like to rent a car, you can easily do so through Hertz, which will deliver it to the airport.
Additional Information
Remember to check the bus schedules to make sure they work for you, and keep in mind that it also takes a little time to get into Gällivare—so allow plenty of time between your flight arrival and the bus departure.
